The Director of the Office of Economy, Industry and Investment in Hodeidah Governorate, Saleh Mohammed, said that there are government directives to localize the cardboard industry in the governorate, stressing work in partnership with the private sector to promote and support this industry. This came during a meeting held on March 15, 2025, as part of the implementation of the economic stimulus program to support the local industrial sector and reduce dependence on imports.
The meeting, organized by the office and attended by representatives of factories and investors, discussed aspects related to the implementation of the directives of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment in supporting and localizing the cardboard industry, and stopping the import of this material that can be produced locally. The meeting reviewed the directives of the Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment on promoting local industries, utilizing available resources to reduce the import bill, providing the necessary facilities to promote this industry, and creating an attractive investment environment in this field.
The director of the economy office in the governorate pointed out that there is great potential to develop the cardboard industry in Yemen, which will contribute to creating job opportunities and increasing local production. He stressed the office's efforts to fully localize this industry, supporting the local economy and reducing production costs by relying on local raw materials. He also emphasized that the office will continue to provide support to factories and investors in this field by facilitating procedures and providing the appropriate environment for the growth of this industry, with the aim of enhancing national production and meeting the needs of the local market, in addition to expanding the export of products abroad.
For their part, representatives of cardboard factories praised this step, stressing their readiness to invest in developing and improving production to meet the needs of the local market. They pointed out that localizing this industry will contribute to providing local products at competitive prices, reducing production costs, and providing new job opportunities.
At the end of the meeting, the leadership of the Economy Office visited a number of cardboard factories to review their conditions and ways to provide the necessary support to the manufacturers, in addition to discussing the challenges they face and ways to overcome the difficulties.
