In a field tour underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering industrial investments, Yemen’s Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Eng. Moeen Al-Mahaqri, visited several private-sector investment factories in Sana’a Governorate on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The minister praised the pivotal role of these projects in achieving self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on imports, and strengthening the country’s economic and pharmaceutical security.
"Star Pharma" Factory: A Leap Forward in Localizing Pharmaceutical Industry
The tour commenced with a visit to the "Star Pharma" factory, which officially began production in mid-2024. Accompanied by Undersecretary for the Industry Sector Ayman Al-Khalqi, Minister Al-Mahaqri reviewed the production process. The facility currently manufactures 50 pharmaceutical products, including dialysis solutions, tablets, and liquids, with plans to introduce 60 additional items soon. The minister expressed admiration for the factory’s advanced technology and adherence to global pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, reaffirming government support to meet local demand for specialized medications as part of a broader strategy to localize the drug industry.
"Khairat Yam" Factory: Agricultural Investment Enhancing Value-Added Growth
The itinerary included a stop at the "Khairat Yam" factory, which produces tomato paste concentrates and mango pulp in western Sana’a. The minister inspected ongoing construction work, expected to conclude with the installation of production lines within three months. Al-Mahaqri commended the national capital’s shift toward investments leveraging local raw materials, highlighting the factory’s role in absorbing agricultural produce, preventing surpluses during peak seasons, and adding economic value. He assured full ministerial support, including incentives outlined in the new investment law, for such initiatives.
Sanitary Diaper Factory: Production Capacity Bolstering Local Markets
The minister also toured a factory producing children’s sanitary diapers, currently outputting 200,000 units daily with the potential to increase capacity by 300%. Al-Mahaqri emphasized the ministry’s efforts to protect and enhance local industries to meet domestic needs, stressing the importance of maintaining high quality standards and offering competitively priced products.

Concluding his tour, the minister lauded the awareness and initiative of local investors in pursuing productive ventures aligned with the government’s plans for a qualitative leap in the industrial sector. He affirmed that these investments strengthen national capabilities, narrow the gap with imported goods, and propel the economy toward new horizons. Al-Mahaqri reiterated the ministry’s dedication to providing all necessary support to foster private-sector growth and achieve sustainable development.
