Yemeni honey enjoys a strong reputation both regionally and globally, thanks to its high quality and natural components that have largely remained untouched by human intervention.

In this context, Abdulaziz Al-Junaid, Director General of Animal Wealth at the Ministry of Agriculture in Sana'a, stated that there are significant investment opportunities in the field of beekeeping and honey production in Yemen, particularly given the diversity and global reputation of Yemeni honey.

He added that recent government measures to protect the reputation and status of Yemeni honey—specifically by banning large-scale imports of foreign honey—have greatly contributed to safeguarding local production and opening new avenues for investment in beekeeping and honey production.

In a statement to Al-Istithmar magazine, Al-Junaid explained that beekeeping and honey production were once merely hobbies for some farmers but are now gradually becoming a growing profession. He noted that building a global brand for Yemeni honey requires organized efforts and increased investment in this sector.

Al-Junaid affirmed that there is an official direction aimed at developing and promoting beekeeping and honey production to generate revenue that supports the national economy with foreign currency. This signifies major investment opportunities, with investors able to capitalize on Yemeni honey's excellent reputation to market products internationally.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture in Sana'a, the number of beekeepers in Yemen is estimated at around 100,000. Yemeni honey production has seen a significant increase over the past decade, with recent statistics estimating Yemen's 2024 honey output at approximately 7,000 tons of various types, notably including Sidr, Samar, Dhoba, and Shu'fi honeys.
