Bakil Yahya Hilal, a young entrepreneur from Ibb, Yemen, is a remarkable example of passion and determination in the field of agriculture and agribusiness. His journey into farming began in childhood, growing up in an agricultural environment that shaped his practical and intellectual outlook. From an early age, he recognized the vital role of innovation in advancing this crucial sector.
As a farmer who inherited the profession from his ancestors, Bakil did not settle for traditional agriculture. Instead, he took a bold step into agricultural manufacturing. His industrial journey started with designing and producing a maize harvester, which he later improved for greater efficiency. His innovative harvester now processes approximately four barrels of clean grains per hour, efficiently separating grains from chaff and waste. This allows farmers to utilize agricultural byproducts for other purposes. Furthermore, he enhanced the machine’s capabilities to harvest sorghum and millet, achieving significant success.
Forage Choppers: Innovative Solutions for Farmers
Bakil’s innovation did not stop there. He developed a small forage chopper to meet the needs of cattle breeders. Later, he introduced an automated forage chopper capable of adjusting the size of the chopped feed, making it easier for animals to chew while reducing waste. This invention has become invaluable to farmers, as it enables year-round use and supports silage production and green fodder storage for extended periods.
Manufacturing Specialized Machinery
Expanding his portfolio of innovations, Bakil designed a fiber chopper for sisal (locally known as "Salaf"), used in extracting "gypsum fiber" for manufacturing gypsum and natural ropes. These ropes are highly resistant to seawater, making them ideal for securing boats and ships, as well as in luxury footwear production and other industries.
Additionally, he developed a grain grinder, an essential machine for processing grains, and expressed his readiness to manufacture it upon request—either as a standalone unit or integrated with the forage chopper. His deep passion for designing and building agricultural equipment drives him to create even more service-oriented machines within available resources.
Bakil Yahya Hilal is a living testament to how passion can be transformed into tangible achievements. Despite challenges, he has pioneered agricultural solutions that contribute to the development of Yemen’s farming sector.
