Yemeni jujube juice, made naturally from national agricultural raw materials, is one of the most important traditional Yemeni drinks and is popular because it is rich in health benefits, and significantly superior to imported drinks, which rely on artificial flavors and refined sugars.
The Yemeni jujube drink industry has entered the stage of organized investment, as it is offered to the Yemeni market as a juice of various sizes and unique flavors.
"Investment Journal" followed how the jujube drink is carefully prepared and discovered that it is made using 100% natural ingredients without artificial additives, which makes it a healthy and nutritious option, and many workers work in its production.
Mustafa Al-Sultan, a worker at Abkar Hatem Jujube Drink Factory, says that the drink contains natural ingredients and is free of chemicals that are harmful to human health.
He added that Hatem Abkar Hatem's drinks are popular drinks that are distributed to various Yemeni governorates and are produced traditionally.
He emphasized that they have branches in several governorates, including Sana'a, and hope in the future to expand branches in all Yemeni governorates.
Jujube quality vs. imported
In contrast, many imported drinks are carbonated and artificially flavored, containing a high percentage of refined sugars, preservatives and artificial colors. Despite its popularity, it lacks the health benefits found in Yemeni jujube juice, and its heavy consumption may be associated with health risks such as obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.
On the other hand, jujube juice supports the local economy, while femto relies on imports, which affects the country's trade balance. Jujube juice is also suitable for vegetarians and diabetics thanks to its natural sugars that are slowly absorbed, while most femto varieties contain added sugars, so jujube juice remains a healthy and economical option over imported drinks, according to nutritionist Dr. Amani Al-Saraghi.
Dr. Kamal Margham, Vice Chairman of the General Organization for Standardization and Metrology, said that the jujube drink is a great investment by growing it in our country, as its flavor is currently imported from India.
He added that jujube can be cultivated in our country in the coastal areas will contribute to the country's economic return by making concentrates, drying the fruits and adding them to baked goods, and certainly its cultivation will contribute to adding nutritional value to the prevailing dietary pattern.
He pointed out that our country is characterized by the cultivation of many fruits that can be exploited in the manufacture of beverages such as jujube drink, especially with the increasing interest in healthy foods and drinks. Focusing on its health benefits and developing innovative and attractive drinks can be a key factor in its success.
The beverage industry in Yemen is a promising sector that should encourage investment in the local food industry by providing tax and funding incentives for startups in this field.
Jujube growers should be provided with technical and financial support, soft loans, and training on modern farming methods. The establishment of agricultural cooperatives should be encouraged to facilitate the marketing of fruits at fair prices, thus ensuring that farmers continue farming.
