The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mohammed Ayash Qahim, announced the initiation of preliminary studies for the establishment of a new inland port in the Qa'a Al-Faydhi area at the southern entrance of the capital, Sana'a. The project aims to alleviate the severe traffic congestion in the Capital Secretariat as part of the ministry's strategy to improve transport infrastructure across all sectors.
Minister Qahim highlighted that the ministry, represented by the General Authority for Land Transport, is taking swift steps to complete the project. He confirmed that the new port will contribute to boosting commercial and customs activities and reducing the cost of exporting agricultural products, aligning with the successful experiences of dry ports in other countries.
This announcement came during a field visit by Qahim to the designated geographic location for the port, where he, along with several officials, reviewed the technical studies and project implementation plans. During the visit, the minister received a detailed briefing from specialists on the project's importance in revitalizing trade and supporting economic development.
Qahim emphasized that the planned inland port is part of the ministry's plan to develop land transport infrastructure to serve the interests of citizens and provide a safe and efficient environment to enhance trade and services. He also praised the efforts of the General Authority for Land Transport in offering innovative solutions to improve transport and stimulate the national economy.
The Minister of Transport described the establishment of the dry port as a strategic step to boost commercial and agricultural activities, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing services for citizens, while reducing the burden on major ports.
