The Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Engineer Maeen Al-Muhaqari, approved 335 new and updated standards in the fields of food and non-food industries.
During the signing of the standards decisions, in the presence of the Director General of the Yemeni Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control Organization, Sam Al-Bashiri, the Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment emphasized the importance of adopting new and updated standards to contribute to enhancing the infrastructure for monitoring imported and locally produced products, protecting consumers, and preserving national capital.
Minister Al-Muhaqari explained that adopting the new standards will address many of the issues faced by the Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization and the relevant authorities, as the process of developing and updating standards is a necessary requirement to align with advanced production technologies in goods and products.
He stressed the importance of continuously developing standards to keep pace with modern technological advancements and improve the quality of local products and their ability to compete with imported products.
For his part, the Director General of the Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control Organization explained that the Yemeni standards approved by the Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment were prepared by national technical committees consisting of relevant stakeholders and representatives from the private sector.
He pointed out that through the newly approved or updated standards, new products will be subject to monitoring, which were not previously fully monitored due to the absence of necessary regulations. He added that these standards will also determine the remaining requirements for equipment, materials, and devices needed to ensure proper application of these standards.
In turn, the Director of the Standards Department at the Yemeni Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control Organization, Ahmed Mahyoub Al-Humaidi, confirmed that adopting the new standards will enhance the regulatory role of the organization and help resolve issues faced by both the organization and the private sector, as these standards align with the technological advancements in the industrial sector.
