Signing of Contract Farming Agreements for Corn and Sesame Crops

On Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, several contract farming agreements for corn and sesame crops were signed in Sana'a. The agreements were made between a group of producers (agricultural associations), several importers, manufacturers, and exporters, under the supervision of the Ministries of Economy, Industry and Investment, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. This event took place as part of a workshop aimed at developing a strategic framework for managing the import costs of these crops, enhancing their processing industries, and boosting their exports.

The workshop also included discussions on the upcoming phase plan for the 1446 AH agricultural season, which aims to promote the replacement of imported products with local ones, contributing to the reduction of the import bill.

The workshop was held under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Dr. Radwan Al-Rubaie, and Deputy Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Mr. Ahmed Al-Shoutari. Officials emphasized the importance of joint efforts to absorb local agricultural production and enhance its competitiveness. It was highlighted that agriculture and industry represent the twin pillars of the national economy, necessitating intensified collaboration to maximize the use of local products.

The workshop also stressed the importance of integrating local agricultural products that meet the required standards. The event was attended by representatives from the private sector, importers, heads of agricultural cooperative associations, as well as several agricultural engineers and experts. The workshop featured a presentation on the strategic framework for corn and sesame crops.

This event marks an important step towards strengthening contract farming and encouraging local producers to increase production efficiency, thereby reducing dependency on imports and supporting the national economy.
